More than 600 Google employees have signed a letter to CEO Sundar Pichai demanding that Google prevent the Pentagon from using its artificial intelligence models for classified purposes, according to reports. The Washington Post. Its organizers claim that many of the signatories work at Google’s DeepMind AI lab, including more than 20 directors, directors and vice presidents.

Otherwise, such uses may occur without our knowledge or ability to stop them,” the letter says. Anthropic is currently locked in a legal battle with the Pentagon over its designation as a “supply chain risk,” after refusing to ease barriers around how the US military uses its AI models, with support from across the tech industry, including employees at Google.
